Fire Hydrant Meters

The City of Whitesboro provides fire hydrant meters for use on City fire hydrants as a courtesy to contractors. Hydrant meters are read on a monthly basis, and billing statements are issued no later than the last day of each month.

Application Requirements

A deposit of $2,700.00 is required at the time of application for a fire hydrant meter and service. Applicants must submit a completed application, the required deposit, and a valid photo identification in person at City Hall.


If payment is made by check, please make checks payable to the City of Whitesboro.

Billing and Fees

  • A $50.00 monthly administrative fee will be included on each monthly bill.

  • A minimum monthly bill of $297.83 applies.

Water Rate Structure

  • Base Bill: $247.83 for the first 2,000 gallons

Additional usage is billed as follows:

  • 2,001–5,000 gallons: $4.02 per 1,000 gallons

  • 5,001–8,000 gallons: $5.38 per 1,000 gallons

  • 8,001–13,000 gallons: $6.05 per 1,000 gallons

  • 13,001 gallons and above: $6.72 per 1,000 gallons

Relocation Fees

  • First relocation: $100.00

  • Second relocation: $150.00

  • Third and subsequent relocations: $200.00 per relocation

Installation and Equipment Requirements

All equipment to be used with the fire hydrant meter must be inspected by City of Whitesboro staff prior to connection to the water system to determine the appropriate backflow prevention device. A City of Whitesboro representative will place the fire hydrant meter.

The hydrant meter must remain at the installed location unless otherwise approved by the City. Contractors are responsible for providing proper freeze protection for the fire hydrant meter and RPZ assembly.

Loss or Damage

Damaged, lost, or stolen fire hydrant meters, including any backflow assembly, will result in forfeiture of the deposit. A new deposit and any applicable fees must be paid before a replacement meter will be issued.

Notice Requirements

A 72-hour written notice is required for meter installation, relocation, or removal.

  • Relocation Requests:

    • Current meter location

    • New meter location

    • Company name

    • Hydrant meter number

    • Job site contact name and phone number

  • Removal or Service Cancellation:
